Vortex Air Cannons at Judy B. McDonald Public Library (Nacogdoches)

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites tweens and teens ages 10 and up to learn about and build vortex air cannons at the final Makerspace of the summer on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 5:30 p.m.

“We built a giant vortex air cannon and unveiled it at the summer reading kick-off,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “We’re going to bring it back out for experimentation and make medium and small-sized ones as well.”

Please call 936-559-2970 to register. More Makerspace programs will be held for teens in the fall, and there will be weekly STEAM workshops for kids ages 7-11 years. Back to School Fair (Livingston)

Come out and celebrate going back to school Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Chocolate Tasting & Unique Pairings at the Public Library (Nacogdoches)

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites the community to attend a Chocolate Tasting Evening for adults on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 6:00 p.m. Participants should bring an open mind and empty stomach to taste a variety of chocolate-based dishes, including pork mole, chipotle chocolate chicken chili, chocolate balsamic vinaigrette, chocolate cherry green smoothies, baked gouda with dark chocolate and more.

There will also be a lesson in basic chocolate garnishes and decorations.

End of Summer Bash at the Public Library (Nacogdoches)

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library is wrapping up the Summer Reading Program on Friday, Aug. 19 at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate in some of our favorite games and activities from the summer and in special Chocolate Games in a winking nod to the wrap up of this year’s Olympic Games.

“We love to throw a party, and we have enjoyed a spectacular summer with our community friends,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “The End of Summer Bash will have something fun for everyone and all ages.”

Rio Olympics At Your Library (Diboll)

Come cheer on Team USA in the Buddy and Ellen Temple Community Room, Aug. 16-19 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

You are welcome to bring snacks, blankets, and anything else you might want during the day!

How to Start a Garden Workshop at the Public Library (Nacogdoches)

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites the community to attend How to Start a Garden, a workshop for adults on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 2:30 p.m.

Participants will learn the basics of how to design a garden from start to finish. Presenters Rachel Payne, Jocelyn Moore and Elia Ali will also explore the benefits of raised beds, mulch, great plants for East Texas, and the major benefits of a fall garden.
