Updates and Repairs Scheduled for U.S. 59

Southbound motorists can expect intermittent lane closures and delays throughout the week from 2.1 miles south of SL 224 in Nacogdoches County to the Angelina River Bridge.

Workers will be placing hot mix asphalt to resurface the roadway in the southbound lanes that will require the lane closures. Moore Brothers, contractor for the $1.6 million project, will continue the paving operations for about two more weeks.

Work is also scheduled in the northbound lanes of US 59 at Procella Creek near the Angelina River in Angelina County. Concrete barriers have been placed on the shoulders for work to replace bridge railings.

“US 59 between Lufkin and Nacogdoches is a heavily traveled major roadway through East Texas. We want to urge motorists to remain alert, reduce their speed and be cautious as workers and equipment move throughout these projects, as well as all of our construction and maintenance projects that are on-going,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer for the Lufkin District.

Other scheduled maintenance and construction work for the coming week in the nine-county Lufkin District includes:

ANGELINA COUNTY

US 59 at Redland: Work will continue as hot mix asphalt is placed from just south of FM 2021 to north of FM 3439. Motorists should expect lane closures.

US 59: Sweeping curb and gutters are planned for various locations.

BU 69/Kurth Drive: Work will continue to replace and upgrade bridge railings. Crews will work to upgrade driveway culverts.

BU 59/A&NR Railroad Bridge: Crews are working to complete the concrete median and work on the slopes, topsoil and vegetation. Lane closures should be expected.

US 69: Crews continue to upgrade driveway culverts with safety end treatments and repairing and upgrading guardrails from SL 287 in Lufkin to just north of Huntington School. Motorists should expect lane closures.

FM 2251: Crews are scheduled to mill rumble strips.

NACOGODOCHES COUNTY

US 59: Work continues from SL 224 to 1.3 miles south of the loop and from US 59 to SH 7 West on SL 224. Sidewalks and driveways are being constructed throughout the project as well as repairs to and replacements to curb and gutter. The center median is being formed and concrete is being placed. Work continues on widening the southbound lanes.

FM 95 South: At Parallel Creek Bridge, crews are working to construct the detour for replacement of the bridge.

FM 1638: Crews are safety treating driveway culverts and cross drainage structures from FM 698 to FM 2609 and along FM 2783 from SH 204 to the end of pavement.

POLK COUNTY

US 190: Crews will continue to work on embankment in areas where passing lanes are being constructed from Onalaska to FM 2457.

US 190/FM 350: Crews continue to upgrade driveway culverts and metal beam guard fencing.

US 59: Crews are scheduled to begin striping from just south of Milton Creek to the BU 59 overpass.

FM 1988: Crews will place a seal coat on the base at Long King Creek Bridge.

FM 62: Work will continue to lengthen multiple box culverts and upgrade extensions and wing walls.

Livingston State Park: Work continues to rehabilitate roads, campsite pullouts and parking lots at Piney Shores, Yaupon and Red Oak camping loops continues. Yaupon and Red Oak Camp loops are closed.

Howell Road: Crews are scheduled to remove the old bridge as construction of the new bridge at Paus Creek continues.

Hooks Road: Crews will continue working to replace the bridge and upgrade approaches at a tributary of Bear Creek.

Jack Pate Road: Crews will set beams as they continue to replace the bridge and approaches at Big Sandy Creek.

Upper Leggett Road: Workers will pour concrete wing walls for the bridge replacement at Big Sandy Creek.

Blue Water Road: Crews will begin constructing bridge abutments for the bridge replacement at Blue Branch.

Nine Bridge Road: Road is closed as crews clear right of way and remove old bridges at Piney Creek No. 1.

SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY

US 96: Traffic is detoured as workers extend cross drainage structures and work to rehabilitate and widen the roadway from the Shelby County line to FM 3451.

US 96: Work continues to replace the bridge at Ayish Bayou. The bridge deck has been completed and approach work at the new bridge is underway as they treat the subgrade.

SH 21: Crews will work to safety treat fixed objects from SH 147 to FM 1.

FM 1175: Crews will work to safety treat fixed objects from the end of pavement to FM 83.

FM 705: Crews will work to safety treat fixed objects from SH 147 to the end of pavement.

SABINE COUNTY

US 96: Crews will work to safety treat fixed objects from FM 83 to the Jasper County line.

FM 1: Crews continue to work to safety treat driveway culverts throughout the project. Base has been placed and blended with cement from SH 184 to SS 1.

SHELBY COUNTY

US 84: Workers are forming caps and columns for the westbound bridge. Subsurface work is being done at the intersection of LA 5 and US 84 in Logansport, LA. Beam placement is underway for the new westbound bridge.
