Facing a submarine-style reliever known for inducing ground balls, Angelina College hitter Nathan Miranda did the only thing he could do when facing the low-ball throwing righty.

Miranda went down and got one.

Miranda, nearly dropping to his knees to swing, golfed a solo homer over the left-field wall to lift the Roadrunners to a thrilling 9-8 win over Bossier Parish College in Thursday’s series opener at Roadrunner Field.

The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday in Bossier City.

Miranda may not have gotten his shot at heroics had it not been for the work of AC reliever Bailey Holstein, who entered the game with nobody out in the fifth inning and with the score tied at 7-7. Holstein inherited a bases-loaded situation and gave up a sacrifice fly to Cavalier hitter Joseph Tassin to give Bossier Parish the lead at 8-7. After that, Holstein shut down the high-powered Cavs, allowing just one hit while striking out nine in four innings.

The ‘Runners also got homers from Blake Lazarine and Josh Elvir in the win. Lazarine, Elvir and Aaron Bowley each drove in two runs for AC.

The Roadrunners and Cavs will start at noon on Saturday.
