From now until the regular season tips off on Nov. 1, Angelina College men’s head basketball coach Kyle Manary will likely do exactly what he did throughout Tuesday’s scrimmage with Pro Vision Academy: Juggle his lineup and see what his guys can do.

AC’s first-year head coach spent the evening spinning through the locks in search of the right combinations of rotations. He played a big lineup, a small lineup and variations of the two, as the Roadrunners cruised to a 108-83 win at Shands Gymnasium.

Sophomore Gary Blackston led the ‘Runners with 28 points that included a 12-of-14 night from the free-throw line. Robert Lewis added 17 points, connecting for a trio of second-half three pointers; and Shaq Gainey scored 10 of his 15 points in the final 20 minutes. Trent Brinley finished with 12 points for AC.

With the lineup changing every few minutes, the first half proved sluggish for the Roadrunners, with PVA taking a 42-37 lead into the locker room.

AC then exploded for a 19-4 run to open the second half, getting threes from Blackston, Gainey and Angel Bullock. The Roadrunners’ Lewis added the exclamation point with a highlight-reel dunk off a feed from Josiah Garges to close out the game.

The Roadrunners will scrimmage Texas Wesleyan and Collin County in a tri-scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Fort Worth. AC will open the regular season at home on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. against Victoria College.
