REP. TRENT ASHBY RELEASES VIDEO ENCOURAGING CENSUS PARTICIPATION

Date:

State Representative Trent Ashby (R-Lufkin) released a video today encouraging Texans
to participate in the ongoing United States Census. The Census, which is required by Article I, Section II of the United States Constitution has taken place once per decade for over 200 years.

“The Founding Fathers saw the Census as a critical tool to ensure fair representation in
Congress,” said Ashby. “Today it continues to do so, while also guaranteeing that billions of
federal dollars are equitably distributed where they are needed most. I hope Texans will join me in completing their Census, so our state can continue receiving our fair share of resources and representation over the next ten years.”

As of July 21, the self-response rate in Texas was 57.2%, which is five percent behind the national average, putting Texas behind 39 other states. In House District 57, all six counties are reporting under the state average.
The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed back the timeline for the Census process, but all residents of the United States still have the opportunity to respond online, by phone, or by mail. Title 13 of the U.S. Code protects all data you provide to the U.S. Census Bureau and ensures that it will be used only to anonymously deliver statistics. Trent Ashby is currently running for a fifth term as the State Representative for House District 57, which encompasses all of Angelina, Houston, Leon, Madison, San Augustine, and Trinity Counties.
