PROJECT UPDATES FOR THE LUFKIN DISTRICT

The Lufkin District is moving into late spring and early summer with many ongoing construction and maintenance projects. Motorists are urged to use caution, reduce speed and stay alert as they travel through a work zone. Obey all signage, flaggers and lead cars. Never drive around cones or barricades in a work zone. Also be prepared to stop.

Work schedules are subject to change in inclement weather. For current road closures and project updates statewide, visit drivetexas.org. Work schedules for coming days in the nine-county Lufkin District include:

ANGELINA

US 69 North: Work to upgrade metal beam guardrail to design standards will continue from SL 287 to the Cherokee County line. Lane closures expected.

US 59: Work to upgrade metal beam guardrail continues from SL 287 to the Polk County line. Lane closures expected.

US 59: Crews are scheduled to repair surfaces in various locations.

US 59 South: Work is scheduled to continue applying a permeable friction course on this project designed to resurface the roadway from Whitehouse Drive to FM 2497 near Diboll. Motorists should expect delays.

US 69 South (Phase I): Crews are monitoring vegetation establishment from Huntington to FM 844 on this project that is designed to widen the roadway from two to four lanes.

US 69 South (Phase II): Work will continue from FM 844 to FM 1270 as crews continue to work on northbound lanes, install drainage structures and construct bridge sub-structures. Drill shafts and columns are also being constructed for the overpass at SH 63. In addition, dirt and structure work for the future southbound Shawnee Creek Bridge continues. This project is designed to widen the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway. Motorists should expect some intermittent delays in some areas and/or shoulder closures, as well as large trucks entering and exiting the roadway to and from the work areas.

SH 147: Work is planned on cross drainage structures, driveway safety end treatments, and culverts near side roads on this project designed to upgrade guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from just north of FM 3123 to FM 2109.

FM 324:  Crews will continue working on cross structures and driveways on this project designed to improve guardrail to design standard and safety treat fixed objects from just south of SH 94 to US 59.

BU 59/Timberland Drive: Work continues on Timberland Drive progressing toward Chestnut Drive on this project designed to install sidewalks and intersection ramps. Expect lane closures.

FM 326: Work is scheduled to repair base in various locations.

FM 3521: Work is scheduled to level up the roadway in various locations.

FM 842: Base repairs are scheduled in various locations.

FM 841: Striping is scheduled at the newly constructed bridge at Biloxi Creek. Motorists should expect slow-moving equipment.

Various locations: Crews are scheduled to apply herbicide, straighten signs and patch potholes.

Robinson Lane: This roadway remains closed as crews continue to work on bridge approaches on this bridge replacement project at Gilliland Creek.

Various locations: Crews are placing stop bars and crosswalk striping in various locations in Lufkin and Diboll.

NACOGDOCHES

SH 21: Work will continue on this project designed to upgrade guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from SH 7 to the San Augustine County line. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures.

FM 1275 (University Drive): Crews are upgrading a traffic signal at College Street.

FM 95: Crews are seeding and monitoring vegetative establishment on this bridge replacement project at Terrapin Creek.

FM 226: Work is scheduled to continue improvements to metal beam guardrail, upgrading to design standards, and safety treating fixed objects from SH 21 to SH 103.

FM 1638: Crews will continue to monitor vegetative establishment designed to upgrade guardrail to design standards, safety treat fixed objects and provide additional pavement width from FM 698 to US 59/SL 224.

FM 2609: Work to relocate utilities continues on this project designed to widen the roadway from Raguet Street to North Street (BU 59).

FM 2713: Work to rehabilitate the roadway is scheduled from FM 2112 to SH 7 East.

SHELBY

US 96: Work is scheduled to apply a permeable friction course as the final surface on the roadway from US 84 to SH 7. Lane closures expected.

US 59: Crews are scheduled to mill and inlay the southbound lanes from Tenaha to Timpson. Lane closures expected.

SH 87: Crews are monitoring vegetative establishment on this project designed to upgrade guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from SH 7 to SH 147.

FM 414: Crews are scheduled to apply a seal coat to the roadway. Motorists should expect lane closures with pilot cars in use.

CR 4789: Crews continue to monitor vegetative establishment at this bridge replacement project at the tributary of Blackwater Creek and at Risinger Creek on CR 4620.

SABINE

FM 1: Crews are scheduled to continue preparing the right of way for this project that is designed to upgrade guardrails to design standards and provide additional pavement width from the San Augustine County line to SH 103.

SAN AUGUSTINE

US 96: Crews will repair base in various locations from SH 103 to FM 1751.

SH 21: Work is scheduled to place embankment at the Attoyac River bridge replacement project. Lane closures are expected.

SH 21: Bridge replacements are complete and crews are monitoring vegetative establishment at Venado Creek, Niciper Creek and Perkins Creek.

FM 711: Crews will be working on ditches on this project designed to reconstruct and widen the pavement from the Shelby County line to US 96.

FM 95: Crews are scheduled to cut high edges of the roadway and repair culverts in various locations.

Various locations: Crews will continue to remove debris caused by recent storms.

POLK COUNTY

US 287:  Mill and inlay work is scheduled at the railroad crossing west of US 59. Lane closures expected.

FM 2798: Crews are scheduled to repair edges in various locations.

TRINITY

FM 2501: Crews are scheduled to seal and repair edges in various locations.

FM 3317: Crews will seal and repair edges in various locations.

HOUSTON

US 287 South: Crews will work to repair edges in various locations from White Rock Creek to the county line.

SH 19: Work is scheduled to improve guardrail to design standard from 1.6 mile north of FM 231 to the Trinity County line.

SH 21: Crews continue to work on cross drainage structures and blading the topsoil on this project designed to reconstruct and add passing lanes from the east end of the Trinity River Bridge to FM 1280. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures.

SH 21: Crews are working on seeding this project designed to reconstruct pavement and add passing lanes from 2.3 miles east of FM 2967 to SH 7.

SH 19 South: Crews will work to level up the roadway from SL 304 to Lovelady.

SH 7 West: Work is scheduled to cut high shoulders and clean ditches in various locations from SL 304 and continuing for about 2 miles.

FM 227: Work is scheduled to add topsoil and establish vegetation on this project designed to safety treat fixed objects from SH 21 to SH 7.

FM 2781: Crews are scheduled to place flexible base on the roadway and continue working on cross structures on this project to reconstruct and widen existing pavement from FM 1280 to US 287. Motorists should expect pilot car and flaggers.

FM 2663: Work is scheduled to repair mailboxes, driveways and county roads in various locations.

FM 228: Crews are scheduled to apply a seal coat surface to the roadway from BU 287 to the Anderson County line.

SL 304: Base repairs are scheduled in various locations from US 287 North to FM 229.

CR 1515: Crews will monitor vegetative establishment where bridges and approaches have been replaced.

Various locations: Striping is being placed at stop bars and crosswalks in various locations in Crockett.

SAN JACINTO

US 190: Crews are scheduled to repair pavement edges in various locations.

US 59: Crews are scheduled for pavement repair near the Trinity River Bridge in the southbound lane. Lane closures expected.

SH 150: Crews are scheduled to continue work on driveway culverts, embankment and flexible base on this project designed to reconstruct the pavement and add passing lanes from the Walker County line to FM 945 North.

FM 2693: Crews will place base material in various locations.

FM 3128: Work is scheduled to repair culverts and guardrails in various locations.

Various locations: Work to repair drainage issues, washouts, signs and mailboxes is scheduled in various locations.
