Must Haves For The Everyday Kitchen

Date:

Food, glorious food, is a staple to the human experience.

food-712665_640We love to do food in and out of the house, with and without friends. We watch videos on how to make an easy and delicious meal or dessert, and the homemade meal is making a comeback in the American kitchen.

Therefore, the everyday home cooking chef needs to be able to rely on his or her tools to get the job done right. An essential ideology to kitchen tools is to never have a tool only usable for one task. These usable once only items simply clutter the kitchen and take money away from buying the higher end items of necessity.

It is better to have a sharp and sturdy knife set than a vegetable peeler.

In honor of all the home cooking heroes out there, here are some must haves for the modern, everyday kitchen:

  • High Quality Knives and Cutting Boards.
Knives are essential to a kitchen, and good knives just make life nicer. That decade old set of knives is more likely to give you a headache than to actually cut anything. The Anysharp knife sharpener is a good way to keep you knives sharp and clean. It is a compact and durable design made to fit into a small kitchen.
  • Flexible Ice Trays.
For those of us without a working ice maker, ice trays are our go to for cool drinks. The plastic ice tray is a point of endless frustration far too often. It is difficult to get the pieces of ice out, and it consistently cracks and causes leaks. I recently bought a flexible ice tray shaped as characters and symbols from the Avengers movies and comics. I loved it. These ice trays are also good to make other things like jello. So, try out a flexible ice tray that is cute and definitely user friendly today.
  • Wide Skillet.
Making pancakes and bacon in a pan is doable, but a skillet is a simple necessity in a kitchen. This is especially true for the breakfast enthusiast. A skillet improves efficiency as well as comfort. A nice iron skillet will greatly improve life in the kitchen.
  • Good Canister Set.
Having designated places for sugar, flour, and more is much better than attempting to keep it fresh in its original package. Plus, these canisters allow for a flare of style in the kitchen, as well. My mom has an apple theme in her kitchen, and she uses these pale yellow canister decorated with apples. You could even try a DIY with cheap, clear canisters if you are feeling crafty one Sunday afternoon.
  • Cast Iron Pans.
These. Are. So. Important. Cast iron pans are better for you than Teflon pans. They last much longer than Teflon pans, and I believe they improve the taste of some foods. Cast iron can be a hassle to keep seasoned and rust free but the benefits outweigh the drawbacks in this situation. Just make sure to wash the pan after every use without soap and add some oil to it after drying.banana-1448902_640

Whether you are a new kitchen owner, a seasoned veteran looking to improve kitchen life, or somewhere in the middle, buying a few items to vastly improve the efficiency and comfort of your kitchen is always a good idea…within reason.
