Lessons I Learned in High School

Date:

During my three and a half years at Lufkin High School I’ve been a complete mess. And let’s be honest, I’m still a mess. Just a more organized one.

When I started high school, I became depressed because of life circumstances and I didn’t know how I was going to cope with both depression and school together. What got me through everything was therapy and my friends.

Now that you know a little about me, let’s move on.

I’ll start with writing that having a connection to and with someone is extremely important to coping with a lot of things. With that being said, learning to be independent and to love yourself should be a top priority. Otherwise you will never get anywhere.

Independence

When you’re in a tight spot, it’s okay to depend on someone to help get you out of it but what’s not okay is when you depend on that person more than you depend on yourself. If you’re using someone for personal gain then you’re hurting the other person. To put it simply, be independent so that you can learn how to support yourself.

Relationships

Relationships are not everything. In fact, if all there is to it is you wanting to be like everyone else, the relationship is nothing. There’s no need for that! If you want to be in a relationship, it’s your decision. Don’t chase something that will never be worth it.

Aside from romantic relationships, what about friendships? I’ve had a lot of friends in my high school years but only a few of them still talk to me. I think that no matter what you do, you’ll always have just a few good friends and that’s okay! Having those good friends is much better than having bad friends.

Time Management

In high school, I was almost never late to my classes. Whenever I was late, it was usually because I was distracted by my phone or friends I saw in the hallway. I think the important thing now that I’m out of high school is that I limit my distractions. Putting my phone on mute could help me do things faster as I’m not distracted by notifications.

These are just a few things I’ve learned but they are also the most important to me. To be able to be a better person all around is a quality I will forever wish to achieve. The world is changing, and you should be too.
