What a treat – Lufkin’s own Hannah Grace Roberts will sing with the award-winning Mercury Chamber Orchestra, Tuesday Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Temple Theater on the Angelina College campus. Hannah’s performance of two arias with Mercury marks the first time that a previous Angelina Arts Alliance high school scholarship winner has returned to the Temple Theater stage as a professional performer. Originally, the Fort Worth Symphony was scheduled to perform but cannot appear due to an ongoing strike, however, all Fort Worth Symphony tickets will be honored at the door. Tickets are on sale now and range from $30-$45 (Premium/Box $50). All unsold tickets go on sale for half-price beginning at 6:30 pm, one hour before performance time. Angelina Arts Alliance is proud to present MERCURY Chamber Orchestra, along with show sponsor Angelina Radiation Oncology Associates. 2016-2017 Season Sponsors are Georgia – Pacific and CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial.

Mercury is a groundbreaking chamber ensemble that seeks to redefine the orchestra with performances that faithfully present the music of great composers in settings that make audience members an equal part of the experience—not simply a spectator. Each audience becomes an essential part of a live Mercury performance. The energy you feel from the musicians on stage is what makes for an unforgettable and intimate experience.

Founded in Houston in 2000, Mercury Chamber Orchestra has a mission to serve the community by celebrating the power of music, Baroque and beyond, teaching, sharing, and performing with passion, intimacy, and excellence. The orchestra offers performances of a broad repertoire of music on period instruments and has garnered critical acclaim around the world through innovative and accessible performances, domestic and international tours, and groundbreaking music education programs.

Vocalist, Hannah Grace Roberts, a classically trained soprano, was one of the first Lufkin-area students to receive the Jane Ainsworth Scholarship from the Angelina Arts Alliance. Hannah went to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh for her undergraduate degree in vocal performance, then to Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York for her Master degree, also in Voice Performance.
