Grandma’s No Bake Cookies are a staple recipe at my house. However, we like to refer to them as “poopoo cookies” because of the way they look while they are being rolled.
These cookies are a chocolate, graham cracker, and powdered sugar mix that my maternal grandmother passed down in a recipe book she dated “1966, Georgia.” They require no cooking time, as the name suggests, and are good for weeks in the refrigerator. However, they usually get eaten before two or three days time.
Prep time before refrigeration is 30 minutes. Refrigeration is until firm or overnight. Prep time post-refrigeration is 10 minutes.
Ingredients:
- 3 squares chocolate
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1 cup pecans (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Powdered sugar
Directions:
1. Melt chocolate with condensed milk in a double boiler (or one pan in a pan full of water).
2. Take pan off burner and add crushed graham crackers.
3. Add vanilla and pecans, mix well.
4. Set on damp towel and roll into towel.
5. Refrigerate until firm.
6. Cut slices and shake slices in powdered sugar.
Looks can be deceiving because though these cookies do at first resemble something not quite so appetizing, they are a delicious and quick dessert perfect for the Christmas season.
At the end of the recipe, my great grandmother added the quote, “Habits are too light to be noticed until they are too strong to be broken.”
