Free Recovery Day in the Park Offers Family Friendly Festival Today

Date:

The Lufkin Coalition is hosting a free family friendly festival and fun run called Recovery Day in the Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Grace Dunn Park.

Recovery Day in the Park celebrates Recovery Month and offers a myriad of activities for all ages as well as many resources for those in need of help on the road to recovery.

“This is about more than recovery from addiction,” says Lindsey Davis, a coordinator of the festival. “It is for recovery from abusive relationships, mental illness, and more. We want to bring people together, let people network, and give people information on recovery services in the community to show that there are good ways to have family friendly fun without alcohol.”

Festival goers can partake in free events from pony rides, bouncy houses, and large bouncy balls, to a rock wall, three-on-three basketball tournament, free concert, and more.

Inspirational speakers will offer words of wisdom during the festival, as well.

Recovery Day in the Park is an annual festival that was started by the Alcohol Drug Abuse Council and their clients. It began at Chambers Park and continued to grow. This is the seventh year for the festival but the first year of the fun run.

If anyone wishes to contribute, they can contact Maria Caldera or anyone at the Lufkin Coalition.

“We are always looking for donations and definitely volunteers,” Caldera said. Organizations in the community that wish to have a booth in the festival are welcome, as well.

Check out Recovery Day in the Park today!
