Escape the Heat at the Public Library

With temperatures rising families often find it too hot to go outside. The staff of Judy B. McDonald Public Library will offer a respite from the heat by offering board games, Xbox, Lego®s, coloring sheets for adults, crafts and a limited library collection for check-out on the following Sundays, June 12th, July 10th and August 14th from 3:00-5:00 pm.

“We know that Sundays in the summertime can be challenging for parents to find something that will entertain their kids. We thought we’d help out by offering a cool and free place to hang out for a while,” said Mercedes Franks, library director. For more information about any library programs, please call 559-2970.

Spanish/English Conversation Group at the Public Library

The theme for the adult summer reading program is “Exercise Your Mind.” One great way to do that is to learn a foreign language. The Judy B. McDonald Public Library offers a Spanish/English Conversation group every Tuesday at noon for all levels of English and Spanish proficiency.

“This is a great way to practice conversation skills. While this is not a class, this is one avenue for English-speakers who are interested in practicing their Spanish skills to meet with Spanish-speakers who want to practice their English skills. We take turns speaking in one language. We converse on a variety of topics and have a great time learning new vocabulary and social customs from one another. No registration is required and anyone, regardless of proficiency level, is welcome to attend,” says Mercedes Franks, library director.

Movie Matinee at the Public Library

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library offers a family-friendly movie every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 2:30 pm. Families may bring their own snacks to munch on during the movie. Beverages will be provided by the library. No registration is necessary for this free event. Call 559-2970 to learn of each week’s listing.

STEAM Lab: Math Battles

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library will offer STEAM programs for children. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. The first program in this series is Math Battles. Families can take part in math-oriented games that help children practice their basic math concepts while having fun. Families will learn new games to play with their children. They can also make their own board game to take home. The free event is Friday, June 10th at 5:00 pm. The event is for ages 7-11 years. For more information, please call 559-2970 or follow us online at www.ci.nacogdoches.tx.us/library or on Facebook and Instagram.
