DETCOG Sponsoring a Fair Housing Seminar

Date:

Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) will be holding a Fair Housing Seminar on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to Noon, both online and at the DETCOG office at 1405 Kurth Drive in Lufkin.

Speakers for the seminar include Melaney Morris from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Keegan Warren-Clem. Ms. Warren-Clem is an attorney and adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law and McCombs School of Business.

President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the federal Fair Housing Act in 1968. The law provides that no person shall be subjected to discrimination because of race, color, national origin, religion sex, disability, or familial status in the sale, rental, financing, or advertising of housing. 53 years later, the provisions found in the Fair Housing Act are still important and relevant today.

Seating at the DETCOG office will be limited. You can reserve a place by calling Carolyn Stephenson at (936) 634-2247 ext. 5353. Instructions for accessing the presentations online can be found at DETCOG.gov.
