2016 PBR World Champion Davis out with fractured neck sustained in New York City.
Ahead of the 2020 WinStar World Casino and Resort PBR Global Cup USA, presented by Monster Energy, Team USA Eagles coaches Justin McBride (Whitesboro, Texas) and J.W. Hart (Overbook, Oklahoma) have announced their replacement for Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas). The 2016 World Champion is currently sidelined for a minimum of three months due to a fractured neck sustained at the season-launch Unleash the Beast event at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Davis’ now-vacant position will be filled by first-time Global Cup selection Boudreaux Campbell (The Woodlands, Texas).
“We lost two of the best bull riders in the world off the same team,” head coach McBride said of Davis and Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas), who is out following reconstructive shoulder surgery and was previously replaced by Cody Teel (Kountze, Texas). “But that is part of the sport, too. It has to go on, and the next guy in has to fill that void.”
The fourth edition of the PBR Global Cup, the only nation vs. nation bull riding competition, will make its second stop at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on February 15-16, 2020. The new team tournament debuted in Edmonton, Alberta, in November 2017, visited Sydney, Australia, in June 2018, and most recently stopped in Arlington this past February.
An accomplished bull rider within the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association), Campbell was crowned the 2017 Resistol Bull Ridging Rookie of the Year while still in high school.
Now a three-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier, the Texan has begun to make a name for himself in the PBR in 2020.
After making his season debut on the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour in Jacksonville, Florida, Campbell on January 4, he found success the next weekend in Reno, Nevada, placing fifth.
Since then Campbell has recorded a runner-up finish on the Velocity Tour in Denver on January 15 and an 11th-place result on the expansion series at the Portland Classic in Oregon three days later.
As a result of his Velocity Tour successes, Campbell is now ranked No. 35 in the world ahead of his Global Cup debut.
Newcomer Campbell will have a large vacancy to fill in replacing Team USA Eagles Captain Davis, who has been one of the most consistent riders at three PBR Global Cups Davis was an integral member of the Team USA contingent that won the inaugural Global Cup in Canada in November 2017 and most recently topped the individual aggregate at the 2019 PBR Global Cup USA when Team USA Eagles finished second.
Davis initially sustained his Global Cup-sidelining injury, a fractured C6 vertebrae, at the season-launch Unleash the Beast event in New York City on January 5. While the injury will not require surgery, it will prevent him from competing for at least three months.
“That was probably the hardest part of the whole thing,” Davis said of missing the 2020 edition of the PBR Global Cup USA. “That hurt. That is my favorite event all year long. I definitely will miss it, but I will still be there to watch even if I can’t get on.”
With the injury replacements, the complete Team USA Eagles roster is: two-time PBR World Champion Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana), Matt Triplett (Columbia Falls, Montana), Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas), six-time PRCA World Champion Sage Kimzey (Strong City, Oklahoma), Teel and Campbell.
