Book Mobile Volunteers Needed at the Public Library

Date:

(Nacogdoches) For several years, Friends of the Nacogdoches Library volunteers have taken books monthly to nine assisted living centers and nursing homes in Nacogdoches. Residents of these facilities make special author or subject requests and the volunteers fulfill those orders. Residents check out the books and return them on the volunteers’ next monthly visit. The book delivery system has been so successful that more volunteers are needed.

“The Friends of the Library volunteers are a dedicated group of people who do a wonderful job of taking the library to the residents. Many of the residents do not have family nearby who can take them books so our volunteers provide an important service. We currently have four volunteers who visit all the sites. We have a great need for more volunteers to assist with this program by helping select books to be delivered and assisting with the delivery of the books. It is very rewarding to see how happy the residents are to see you bringing the books,” said Mercedes Franks, Library Director. Potential volunteers should contact, JuLee Comer, Volunteer Coordinator, at 559- 2947 about the book delivery program and the volunteer application.
