Angelina College Vocational Nursing Program Honors Graduates

Angelina College’s Vocational Nursing program on Wednesday recognized 36 new nurses in the annual Pinning Ceremony held at Temple Theater on the AC campus.

Graduates of the program included those from the Lufkin, Crockett and Jasper campuses.

Winifred Ferguson-Adams, Associate Dean of Instruction of AC’s Health Careers Division, addressed the honorees.

“All of your instructors, including myself, are nurses,” Ferguson-Adams said. “By approving your graduation tonight, we are saying we trust your abilities enough to put our lives in your hands.”

The graduates include the following:

Lufkin campus – Ariadna Amaro, Priscilla Brandt, Jessica Buenrostro, Daniel Castillo, Melanie Chittum, Mariah Conner, Katherine Craft, Satori Doyle, Devin Fletcher, Melodey Gauman, Dolores Jacobo, Yadira Juarez, Jennifer Luna, Lisette Marrero-Martinez, Katie McElveen, Lonesha Mosley, Steven Moulder, Sylvia Padillo, James Parrish, Melba Pope, Heather Richson, DeMichael Robinson, Teya Simmons, Lauren Smith, Stephen Stockman, Margarita Vargas, Rebekah Walsh and Te’Undra Williams.

Crockett campus – Hillary Armstrong, Makaila Brown, Shelly Brown, Latonia White and Amy Wisdom.

Jasper campus – Jasmine Blake, Nella Newman and Janice Russell.

AC’s Nursing instructors include Winifred Ferguson-Adams, Division Director; Amber Murphy, VN Program Coordinator; Charlet Blades, Crockett VN Instructor; Patricia Hooks, Jasper VN Instructor; Jacquelyn McClain, Lufkin VN Instructor; Brian Opella, Lufkin VN Clinical Instructor; Beverly Moreland, Lufkin VN Clinical Instructor; Mary Smith, Lufkin VN Clinical Instructor; and Carrie Zavala, Lufkin VN Clinical Instructor.

Gary Stallard
Sports Information Director Gary Stallard, who also serves as a Liberal Arts Instructor, begins his eleventh season with Angelina College. Following a career as a U.S. Marine, Stallard completed his bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin University, where he majored in English and Journalism. For more than 16 years, he has worked as a sports writer/columnist/photographer for the Lufkin Daily News; he continues to contribute free-lance articles on occasion. Stallard has won several awards for writing, including the Golden Hoops Award for basketball writing in 2003, Regional Sports Writer of the Year in 2004, and the Texas Press Association’s first-place award for column writing in 2007 and in 2014. He has also done basketball, football and baseball radio and live streaming play-by- play and color commentary for an ESPN affiliate. Currently Stallard serves as play-by-play broadcaster for AC basketball, baseball and softball games. Prior to arriving at Angelina College, Stallard taught English at Lufkin High School for four years. He currently teaches Developmental Writing classes at AC. He and his wife Susan live in Lufkin.
