Anderson-Paxson holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, a master’s degree in communication from Stephen F. Austin State University as well as a master’s degree in art and a master of fine arts degree, both from SFA. She has been an instructor at Angelina College since 1992 and has exhibited her works in Texas, across the United States and in Italy.

Anderson-Paxson shot her photo in the Union Market in St. Louis, Missouri. The building, now a hotel, was constructed in 1924 by the city of St. Louis. It was built on the site of an old public market dating to before the Civil War. The photo was taken, early in the morning in the parking garage where light is seen streaming through one of the original window.

“I want to look past what is in front of me and see what exists beyond to provide the viewer with more than just surface information. It might be a glimpse of the past or a glimpse of culture. Then sometimes the images are less specific in their identification of place and instead serve as abstracted and fragmented flashes of memory where the subject matter becomes secondary to the formal elements such as light, line, shape and form,” Anderson-Paxson said.

The exhibit was juried by Jose Esparza, Chong Cuy and Pamela Alper, Associate Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. A variety of art, including photos, paintings, drawings and sculptures are featured in the show.

The Assistance League of Houston, a chapter of National Assistance League, is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization committed to serving children and adults in need in our communities through innovative philanthropic programs. This event is an effort to bring recognition to Texas artists and to increase public support for the arts.
