Women’s Basketball:

            More postseason honors for some Lady Roadrunners. Zaraya March and Lovietta “Pinky” Walker were named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American teams. March earned First Team honors, while Walker was named Honorable Mention. Walker made the same list as a freshman two years ago.

Roadrunner Baseball:

             The Roadrunners hit a rough patch this past week, playing two conference doubleheaders and losing all four games. AC lost at Bossier Parish CC on Wednesday, falling 7-2 and 12-2. The ‘Runners then dropped both games against Tyler JC on Saturday by 4-3 and 12-4 scores.

            AC on Monday will host Dallas College-Mountain View in a single, nine-inning game starting at 3 p.m. The Roadrunners play a doubleheader at Panola College on Wednesday starting at 1 p.m.; the team will close out the week with a Saturday doubleheader against Northeast Texas CC starting at 1 p.m.

Lady Roadrunner Softball:

            The Lady Roadrunners also suffered a rough stretch in conference play this week, dropping both games of a doubleheader at conference-leading San Jacinto. Final scores were 5-1 and 9-1. On Saturday, AC fell in the opener against Coastal Bend by a 3-0 score but bounced back for a 9-1 win in the nightcap.

            The ladies host Lamar State College-Port Arthur in a Wednesday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. AC then will host non-conference opponent LSU-Eunice in a pair of games on Friday starting at 2 p.m. (This game wasn’t on the original master schedule sent out at the beginning of the season; it was added later.)

            Wednesday, 3/9: AC Softball hosting Lamar State College-Port Arthur, doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. (Live streaming at angelinaathletics.com).

Gary Stallard
Sports Information Director Gary Stallard, who also serves as a Liberal Arts Instructor, begins his eleventh season with Angelina College. Following a career as a U.S. Marine, Stallard completed his bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin University, where he majored in English and Journalism. For more than 16 years, he has worked as a sports writer/columnist/photographer for the Lufkin Daily News; he continues to contribute free-lance articles on occasion. Stallard has won several awards for writing, including the Golden Hoops Award for basketball writing in 2003, Regional Sports Writer of the Year in 2004, and the Texas Press Association’s first-place award for column writing in 2007 and in 2014. He has also done basketball, football and baseball radio and live streaming play-by- play and color commentary for an ESPN affiliate. Currently Stallard serves as play-by-play broadcaster for AC basketball, baseball and softball games. Prior to arriving at Angelina College, Stallard taught English at Lufkin High School for four years. He currently teaches Developmental Writing classes at AC. He and his wife Susan live in Lufkin.
