SWINGING ROADRUNNERS, ACC BIG BAND TEAMING UP FOR SPRING JAM, TRIBUTE TO GLENN MILLER

Date:

The Angelina College Swinging Roadrunner Jazz Band and the ACC Big Band will again jam to a festival of American music at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1 at AC’s Hudgins Hall.

Director Larry Greer leads the program, with his musicians resurrecting selections from contemporary music and jazz standards. Greer, a music instructor for AC’s Fine Arts Division, assembles his unique blend of college musicians as each semester progresses, measuring their talents to see just where they fit into the Swinging Roadrunner Combo. He then showcases those talents in fall and spring concerts that have become one of the area’s most popular musical attractions.

The jazz combo will be playing classic jazz standards arranged by Greer for a small group setting. The set list will include selections from the following list:

“Things Ain’t the Way They Used to Be” (D. Ellington); “Ain’t Misbehavin’” (F. Waller; vocalist Bethany Perez); “My Little Suede Shoes” (C. Parker); “Now’s the Time” (C. Parker); and “Freddie the Freeloader” (M. Davis).

Combo performers include Max Vallejo (Lufkin), tenor sax; Jason Park (Nacogdoches), drum set; Stewart Haas (Hudson), guitar; Ethan Landrum (Hudson), bass and Larry Greer (Hudson), director and piano.

Greer will also direct the ACC Big Band in its celebration of the birth of legendary band leader Glenn Miller, with the program scheduled to include some of the following selections:

“String of Pearls”, “Moonlight Serenade”, “Pennsylvania 6-5000”, “Little Brown Jug”, “Tail-End Charlie”, “Jeep Jockey Jump”, “Sunrise Serenade”, “Tuxedo Junction” and “In the Mood.”
