WORK CONTINUES ON WIDENING PROJECT SOUTH OF HUNTINGTON

LUFKIN – Crews are in full work mode on US 69 South on a construction project to widen the roadway. Work is scheduled next week to cement treat the subgrade from the Huntington city limits to FM 844. The project will widen the roadway from two lanes to a four-lane highway with a continuous two-way left turn lane. Motorists can expect temporary lane closures with pilot cars in use to lead traffic through the work zone. Further south on US 69 from FM 844 to FM 1270, the project continues with crews clearing the right of way and burning brush in preparation for the roadway widening project. Motorists can expect smoke in the area and are urged to reduce speed and stay alert to moving equipment and workers. Traffic fines double when workers are present.
Other work planned in the nine-county Lufkin District for the week of Feb. 5-9 includes:

ANGELINA
US 59/SL 287 East: Work is scheduled to place striping on the exit ramps of SL 287 East from US 59 North to US 59 South.
US 69: Mill and inlay is scheduled to continue in both north and southbound lanes within the city limits of Huntington.
SH 147: Crews are scheduled to maintain ditches in various locations.
FM 706: Crews will work to repair and level up road base.
FM 842: Crews are scheduled to maintain ditches.
FM 1194: Widening has been completed on each side of the road. This work will surface will cure next week before proceeding with more construction that will provide additional paved surface width from SL 287 to FM 3150.

NACOGDOCHES
US 59: The concrete pavement removal has been completed at the intersection of SL 224 and is open to traffic.
SH 103: Crews will begin to upgrade guardrail to design standards from the Angelina County line to the San Augustine County line.
SH 21 East: Work is scheduled to repair shoulders from SL 224 to FM 226.
FM 343: The project has been placed on vegetative establishment and clean up has begun after the pavement was reconstructed and widened from the Cherokee County line to FM 225.
FM 1087: Work on driveway culverts is complete and cross structures are being upgraded to design standards from US 259 to FM 95.
FM 1878: Hot mix has been placed and concrete curb and gutter is being placed at La Nana Creek where a new bridge, approaches and sidewalks have been constructed.
FM 2782: Work is scheduled to repair shoulders from SH 7 West to US 59.

POLK
FM 356: Working on subgrade, storm sewer, curb and gutter, and cross drainage structures on this project designed to reconstruct and widen the pavement with a two-way continuous left turn lane and 10-foot shoulders from 1.1 miles north of US 190 to US 190.
Old Highway 35: This project has been placed on vegetative establishment where a new bridge and approaches were constructed at the tributary of Long King Creek.
Blue Water Road: The bridge replacement and approaches over Blue Branch are complete and the area is being monitored for vegetative establishment.
Carmona Road: Crews are monitoring for vegetative establishment at the bridge replacement over Brushy Creek.

SAN JACINTO
US 59: Additional signs are being placed and the project is being monitored for vegetative establishment from just south of the Union Pacific Railroad in Shepherd to just north of FM 2914 where a southbound frontage road was added and main lanes were reconstructed.
US 190: Cleanup work is scheduled through the project designed to upgrade and safety treat fixed objects from the Walker County line to the Polk County line.
SH 150: Work is scheduled to repair pavement edges in various locations.
FM 1127: Crews will continue to upgrade metal beam guard rail and safety treat fixed objects from US 59 to the end of pavement.
Various locations: Crews are scheduled to level up and repair pavement.
Various locations: Work is scheduled to repair drainage and washout issues in several locations including on US 59, FM 3460, FM 2693, SH 156, SH 150, US 190, FM 2025 and FM 1725.

HOUSTON
US 287: Crews are scheduled to level up pavement inside SL 304 in both north and southbound lanes.
US 287: Work to level up pavement is scheduled at US 287 North at Happy Holler.
US 287 North: Work is scheduled to repair road edges from the Anderson County line to Grapeland.
SH 7 East: Workers are scheduled to maintain ditches in the Beria Community.
SH 21: Crews will continue to drill new shafts beneath the Trinity River Bridge on the Houston County side where work is underway to repair the substructure of the bridge.
SH 21: Work to backfill areas and remove forms east of Crockett is planned where crews have safety treated fixed objects from just south of SL 304 to 2.5 miles south of FM 1733.
SH 21: Crews are repairing the roadway and filling potholes west of Crockett where the pavement is being reconstructed and passing lanes are being added from 2.3 miles east of FM 2967 to SH 7.
FM 3187: Work to level up pavement and base repairs are scheduled from the end of pavement to the intersection of SH 21 East.
FM 227 East: Crews are scheduled to maintain ditches to approximately two miles from Grapeland.
SL 304: Pavement level up is scheduled in various locations from US 287 North to FM 229.

TRINITY
SH 94: Work to repair surface edges is planned from Groveton to the Angelina County line.
FM 357: Crews are scheduled to continue to clean driveways where culverts have been upgraded to design standards from SH 94 to FM 2262.
Various locations: Crews are scheduled to patch potholes and repair roadway edges.

SHELBY
SH 87: Work will continue to improve guardrail to design standards and upgrade and safety treat fixed objects from SH 7 to SH 147.
CR 4789: Approach work is underway and bridge rail has been placed at the new bridge at the tributary of Blackwater Creek. At Risinger Creek, right of way preparations have begun and a detour bridge will be placed as construction begins to replace the bridge and approaches.

SAN AUGUSTINE
US 96: This project is being monitored for vegetative establishment from the Shelby County line to FM 3451 after pavement was reconstructed with the addition of a passing lane.
SH 21: This project has been placed on vegetative establishment after work has been completed to upgrade and safety treat fixed objects from SH 147 to FM 1.
SH 21: Bridge approaches are being constructed with flexible base and cement treatments at Venado Creek and Perkins Creek . Bridge decks and bridge railings have been completed.
SH 21: The bridge deck at Niciper Creek has been completed and embankment is being placed.
FM 705: This project is being monitored for vegetative establishment after work was completed to upgrade and safety treat fixed objects from SH 147 to 2.4 miles south of FM 83.
Various locations: Work is scheduled to repair road base, continue ditch maintenance and debris cleanup.

SABINE
Various locations: Crews are scheduled to replace culverts.
