The basketball action at Shands Gymnasium is getting heated – and that’s while the Angelina College Roadrunners are in the half-time locker room.

AC is continuing the “Teacher Tussle” begun during last season. Teachers and staff members from area schools compete in a full-court basketball game during half time of Roadrunner men’s basketball games. Last year, the games were merely for fun.

This year, the games got serious. Teams will now compete for a shot at a championship at the end of the AC season.

The games tipped off during last week’s showdown between players from Dunbar/Brandon and Kurth/Anderson schools. Dunbar/Brandon earned the hard-fought win in the first round.

The events are an effort to honor area schools and educators for their contributions to the community.

The remainder of the schedule, along with the accompanying Roadrunner games, is as follows:

Wednesday, Jan. 17: Brookhollow/Trout vs. Herty/Coston. Roadrunners vs. Lamar State College-Port Arthur, 7 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 27: Burley/Slack vs. Hackney/Garrett. Roadrunners vs. Lee College, 4 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 17: Quarterfinals. Roadrunners vs. Jacksonville College, 4 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 24: Semifinals. Roadrunners vs. Blinn College, 4 p.m.

Saturday, March 3: Championship. Roadrunners vs. Coastal Bend College, 4 p.m.
