SFA Department of Music to Host Guest Performer Francisco Perez

Date:

This Wednesday (Jan. 22), the percussion department of Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Music will be hosting performer, composer and educator Dr. Francisco Perez for a guest recital in the Cole Recital Hall.

Dr. Perez will be visiting the campus to host classes on musical performance and to perform in the evening for those who wish to attend. Dr. Perez, a well-known name in his field, is currently an Associate Director of Music at Lamar University. Dr. Perez received his Doctorate of Musical Arts and Master’s in Percussion Performance from the University of Kentucky and his Bachelor of Music Education from Texas Christian University. Dr. Brad Meyer, Director of Percussion Studies at SFA, routinely hosts professionals in their field of study in order to expose his students to masters of their craft as well as to showcase the percussive arts:

“Dr. Perez is a fantastic, up-and-coming composer as well as performer. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Perez for about a decade, and it has been fantastic to watch his career progress! We are excited to have him at SFA to give a clinic Wednesday at 1:00pm in the Percussion Studio and a solo recital at 6:00pm in Cole Hall.”

In addition to his career as an educator, Dr. Perez has toured extensively internationally and across the US and has several published works with universities across the country, one of which, an entrancing vibraphone piece titled “Tessaract,” will be performed by Perez himself Wednesday. Additionally, Dr. Perez will be performing pieces on a variety of percussion instruments which are sure to enthrall and capture his audience.
