Blackston’s 31 Points Lift AC to Conference Win

Gary Blackston lit up the scoreboard for 31 points, Isiah Bailey added 22 more and the Angelina College Roadrunners rolled over Bossier Parish Community College 106-79 Saturday afternoon at Shands Gymnasium.

Blackston went 10-of-12 from the field and 3-of-5 from the three-point line in adding up his totals. Bailey hit each of his 10 free-throw attempts, and Corinthian Ramsey chipped in with 13 points and seven assists to lift the ‘Runners to their 13th win overall and fifth in conference play.

Lasani Johnson led the Cavaliers with 22 points; teammate Jerry Perry finished with 15. After taking a seven-point lead into the halftime break, the Roadrunner exploded early in the second half, extending the margin to 21 points in the first seven minutes.

AC defenders forced 19 Cav turnovers, converting those to 24 points on the other end. The Roadrunner bench did its part as well, contributing 37 points for the night. AC (12-5, 5-2) will play on Wednesday at Lamar State College-Port Arthur. That game is set for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

The Lady Roadrunners on Saturday fell at Trinity Valley College, losing 77-42 in Athens. AC’s ladies host Blinn College on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Gary Stallard
Sports Information Director Gary Stallard, who also serves as a Liberal Arts Instructor, begins his eleventh season with Angelina College. Following a career as a U.S. Marine, Stallard completed his bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin University, where he majored in English and Journalism. For more than 16 years, he has worked as a sports writer/columnist/photographer for the Lufkin Daily News; he continues to contribute free-lance articles on occasion. Stallard has won several awards for writing, including the Golden Hoops Award for basketball writing in 2003, Regional Sports Writer of the Year in 2004, and the Texas Press Association’s first-place award for column writing in 2007 and in 2014. He has also done basketball, football and baseball radio and live streaming play-by- play and color commentary for an ESPN affiliate. Currently Stallard serves as play-by-play broadcaster for AC basketball, baseball and softball games. Prior to arriving at Angelina College, Stallard taught English at Lufkin High School for four years. He currently teaches Developmental Writing classes at AC. He and his wife Susan live in Lufkin.
