For now, the only thing slowing the Angelina College baseball team is the weather.
The Roadrunners won their third straight game – and fourth in five tries – Saturday against Tyler College in Temple, beating the Apaches 12-7 behind a two-run homer from Dylan Murphy, two RBI each from Euro Diaz and Sean Bergeron and some clutch relief pitching from Chandler Reece, Jeremy Rodriguez and Lance Lusk.
AC was supposed to have taken on Temple College later in the day, but the rains forced the cancellation.
The Roadrunners also were to have hosted a doubleheader on Friday against Houston Community College; that, too, was a wash, but AC managed to land a worthy opponent for Tuesday. The ‘Runners now will host Galveston College in a doubleheader at Roadrunner Field.
On Saturday, Huntington product Reece entered the game in the second inning after the Apaches had already posted six runs. Reece then went the next three innings, allowing one earned run and striking out three while keeping the Roadrunners in the game until the offense broke out. Jeremy Rodriguez added two innings of scoreless relief, and Lance Lusk threw a scoreless seventh inning in the win.
Alec Paz, Sam Haley, Hayden Baker and Sam Gotlieb also drove in runs for AC, and Taylor Meaux scored three runs. Haley’s day was a continuation of his torrid start to the season: He’s batting .348 with a .607 slugging percentage.
Tuesday’s twin bill starts at 3 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.
