Roadrunners Open Conference Tourney Friday

AC Looking for One Win Better than 2015 Result

The Angelina College Roadrunners surprised plenty of teams in their 2015 conference tournament run. The team is hoping to add at least one more win to pull off an even bigger surprise in 2016.

AC in 2015 advanced to the tournament championship game, falling one win short of making the trip to the national finals. Some of the players from that squad are on-hand as the ‘Runners open the tournament’s 2016 version Friday in Sugar Land.

Sophomores Chris Estrada, Mitch Henshaw, Carson Lance, Daniel Lingua, Dustin West, Elijah Rodriguez, Zach Rome and Kevin Roe were on the field or in the dugout in ‘15 as head coach Jeff Livin received the trophy for the tournament runners-up.

AC earned the third seed in the conference’s East Zone and will face Wharton College at 1 p.m. on Friday. The Roadrunners took two out of three games in the two teams’ only meetings this season.

Friday’s schedule includes the following games: #2 Panola vs. #3 Alvin, 10 a.m.; #3 Angelina College vs. #2 Wharton, 1 p.m.; #4 Bossier Parish vs. #1 San Jacinto, 5 p.m.; and #1 Navarro vs. #4 Galveston, 8 p.m.

Saturday’s schedule includes The San Jacinto/Bossier Parish loser vs. the Alvin/Panola loser at 10 a.m.; the AC/Wharton loser vs. the Navarro/Galveston loser at 1 p.m.; the San Jacinto/Bossier Parish winner vs. Alvin/Panola winner at 5 p.m.; and the Navarro/Galveston winner vs. the AC/Wharton winner at 8 p.m.

The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, May 17, with the winner advancing to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

All conference tournament games will take place at Skeeter Park (Constellation Field) in Sugar Land. TSRN Sports will live stream the entire tournament at tsrnsports.com.
