Saturday afternoon’s Angelina College basketball game will have both a sentimental and surreal quality to it in addition to all the action on the floor.

The Roadrunners (13-9, 5-6) host San Jacinto College in an all-important conference tilt – and the two are squaring off in the regular season for the final time. San Jacinto trustees in 2016 voted to eliminate four athletic programs, including men’s and women’s basketball. Roadrunner and Raven teams have locked up in memorable battles throughout the years, and even long-time San Jacinto rivals have expressed disbelief in the program’s exit from the conference.

The Ravens, currently 3-7 in conference play, are fighting for a final appearance in the league tournament in March, while the Roadrunners are back in first place in Region XIV’s South Division, tied with the Blinn team they beat 77-75 on Wednesday.

At half time, AC will honor long-time head coach and current athletic director Guy Davis – the Roadrunners’ head coach for 31 years – and his wife Dorothy, who taught elementary school in the area for 42 years. The college will name the court at Shands Gymnasium for the couple.

Game time is 4 p.m. Fans can view the action via live streaming at angelinaathletics.com.
