No. 14 Lady Roadrunners Host Jacksonville on Wednesday AC’s Mack Surpasses 1,000-point Mark, Program Scoring Record in Sight

Date:

The Angelina College Lady Roadrunners are creating quite a buzz this season, and nothing about it is simple hype.

The Lady ‘Runners maintained their hold on the 14th spot in Tuesday’s national rankings, but with the way the team has been rolling, AC’s ladies won’t stay there long before moving up even higher.

And just last week, Natasha Mack surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her junior college career, leaving her within some 200 points of the all-time program record. Mack set the single-season mark just last year with 682. She has 374 thus far this season with 13 games remaining in the regular season.

In addition, Mack is ranked second nationally in scoring – at 23.4 points per game, a mere .1 behind the leader – and first in blocked shots at six per game.

Mack and the Lady ‘Runners are coming off a dominating 85-44 win at Bossier Parish College this past weekend. AC held the Lady Cavs to 26 points through three quarters, and five Lady Roadrunners reached double figures in scoring: Mack with 19, Taylor Jacob and Mia Perkins with 14 each, Britney Thompson with 13 and Teeonna Barkley with 11.

The scary part for opponents? This team isn’t standing pat, according to head coach Byron Coleman.

“The main thing is every week just keep getting better,” Coleman said. “Game to game, practice to practice – let’s just keep working at getting better and continue to maintain our focus. We’ve been able to do that for the past two weeks, and I’m very pleased to see us keep moving forward.”

Coleman also noted that every player is beginning to find her role in the team’s flow. None displays that attitude more than Mia Perkins, who’s posted back-to-back double-doubles with a 23-point, 12-rebound performance against Tyler and 14-point, 12-rebound game at Bossier Parish.

“Mia had a great week, and I’m proud of her effort,” Coleman said. “I know she’s happy and feeling she’s turned a corner as far as playing so well on a consistent basis. She’s worked hard for this.

“And Mia Williams was an assist machine (nine assists) this past weekend. Both those kids had tremendous weeks, and they’re doing everything to help us get better every week.”

The Lady Roadrunners (15-1, 4-1) tip off against Jacksonville College (1-9, 0-5) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Shands Gymnasium. Fans can view the live stream by visiting angelinaathletics.com.
