Nichols Grateful to Continue to Serve East Texas

Date:

This week, Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) was re-elected to serve as Texas Senator for District 3. The district covers 19 counties including the greater part of East Texas and Montgomery County.

“I am grateful the voters trusted me enough to serve them for four more years, as it has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve Senate District 3. I look forward to continuing to work for the people of East Texas in ensuring our children have the educational resources they need to be successful, keeping Texas’ economy one of the strongest in the world, providing an adequate infrastructure system and keeping taxes low. Thank you to all of those who have supported me in the past, present and future,” said Nichols.

Nichols, first elected in 2006, has a strong conservative record focused on limited government and representing the district’s interests. He authored and passed legislation to reduce government spending, protect landowners, encourage free-markets and reduce fraud. During his time with the Sunset Advisory Committee, they eliminated six state agencies which saved the taxpayers $161.9 million. In his 11 years in office Nichols has stayed faithful to the ‘Texas Taxpayer Protection Pledge’, which opposes any and all efforts to increase taxes. Nichols was unanimously elected President Pro Tempore by his colleagues in the Texas Senate at the end of the 85th Legislative Session. This puts him second in line to the Governor’s office, after the Lieutenant Governor.

Nichols has served as the Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee since the 83rd Legislative Session, and is widely respected as one of the state’s experts on transportation policy and for preserving local control of Texas roads.

Nichols said his work in the Legislature is driven by the interests of those he represents. “The priorities of Senate District 3 are my priorities,’ said Nichols. “ I look forward to continuing to work towards a government that is smaller, efficient and accountable to the people of Texas.”

Nichols is recognized as one of Texas’ most effective and hardest-working legislators. The Texas Association of Business named him a “Champion of Free Enterprise” for his work towards promoting a better business climate. He was also named a “Champion for Children” by the Equity Center for his work to improve the school finance system. Texas Monthly Magazine named Nichols as one of the Top 10 Best Legislators for the 85th Legislative Session.
