Mark Your Calendar for Power of Pink!

Date:

Motivational humorist and author Kay Frances will share her lighthearted message at this year’s annual Power of Pink! luncheon on Thursday, October 18 at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center in Lufkin from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

LUFKIN, TEXAS … Breast cancer awareness is commemorated across the country during the month of October, marked by pink ribbons and a community of caregivers and survivors standing up in the fight against cancer, but in the mid-1990s when Jan Moore of Lufkin was diagnosed with the devastating disease, information about breast cancer was hard to come by. After her death in 1993, her friends wanted to do something special to commemorate Jan. Barbara Polk, Mary Martha Henderson, Tony Brown, and Nancy Moore approached CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial leaders with the idea of hosting a breast cancer awareness luncheon. Power of Pink! now benefits more than 1,200 women every year in Lufkin and Livingston. This marks the 26th year of Power of Pink! in Lufkin and the 7th year in Livingston.

This year’s event is set for Thursday, October 18 at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center in Lufkin from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Tickets will be available on September 4 and can be purchased from various Power of Pink! sponsors. Visit www.chistlukeshealthmemorial.org/news/power-of-pink for a list of those sponsors or to purchase tickets online.

Hosted by Temple Cancer Center’s Medical Director Sid Roberts, M.D. the event features both hilarious and heartwarming moments that entertain, inspire and provide educational awareness.

At this year’s event, motivational humorist and author Kay Frances will share her message to “lighten up, stress less and take care of ourselves.” She has spoken in 40 U.S. states and all over Canada for more than 30 years. Kay has performed as a professional standup comedian for many years and appearing on a number of national television and radio programs including Lifetime Cable’s “Girls Night Out” and NBC’s “America’s Funniest People.” She is also the author of “The Funny Thing About Stress: A Seriously Humorous Guide to a Happier Life.”

As one of the much anticipated portions of the event, the 10th Annual Art Bra Exhibit will showcase extravagant bras as various members of the community “walk the runway” modeling these uniquely creative designs. A delicious meal, door prizes and raffle prizes are also part of the annual luncheons.
