LUFKIN – Two closures in Lufkin Wednesday could have motorists delayed, especially during peak traffic hours as crews work to place new signs and delineation on SL 287 East and continue a mill and inlay project on SL 287 West.
The northbound, outside main lane of SL 287 East/US 59 in front of Chili’s Restaurant will be closed beginning at about 8:30 am Wednesday in order to install a new merge sign and lane delineators. The lane should be reopened by mid-afternoon or when work is completed.
On SL 287 West, crews will continue mill and inlay operations in the southbound, outside lane between SH 94 and FM 1271/Old Union Road. “These are high traffic areas in Lufkin and we are asking motorists to be cautious, stay alert and slow down through these work zones,” said Rhonda Oaks. “The nine-county Lufkin District has many construction and maintenance projects ongoing and the best way to arrive safe is to drive safe. We want motorists to slow down and stay alert.”
Obey all traffic control devices and remember traffic fines double when workers are present.
