The Angelina College Lady Roadrunner softball team makes a big deal with its signing ceremonies.
This past Wednesday, the program offered three great reasons to celebrate.
The Lady Roadrunners received letters of intent from three players expected to make immediate impacts upon their arrival in 2018: Lufkin’s Sara Mayes, Orangefield’s Kaylee Ancelot and Huntsville’s Makayla Rodger.
Mayes was an All-Angelina Offensive Player of the Year in 2017. The catcher belted the ball at a .545 clip with three homers, 20 RBI, eight doubles, a triple and an .886 slugging percentage.
Ancelot, an All-Orange Leader Offensive Player of the Year and an All-District selection, hit .405 with seven homers and 37 RBI while pitching in every game for the Lady Bobcats.
Rodger, whose nickname “Hacksaw” stems from a moniker received from her 10-under select coach, is a three-year letterman, having started for the Lady Hornets at catcher since her freshman season. Named Newcomer of the Year following her freshman campaign, Rodger also earned 1st Team All-District, Academic All-District honors in both her 9th and 10th grade years and finished last season as the Lady Hornet MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
The Lady Roadrunners open the regular season on Feb. 25.
