Lady Roadrunner Soccer Places Four on All Region List Grimes, Dewbre Earn First-Team Nods

Date:

The Angelina College Lady Roadrunner soccer team set a new standard in 2018, winning 14 games and finishing third in the Region XIV conference standings while qualifying for the post-season tournament for the third straight year.

All that for a program that just celebrated its third birthday.

Following the team’s big year, the individual honors arrived in big numbers.

Lady ‘Runners Jerissa Grimes and Jade Dewbre earned Region XIV 1st Team All-Region honors, while Jasmin Keller and Bailey Bowers received Honorable Mention nods. Their accomplishments mark the most-ever post-season superlatives awarded for an AC soccer team.

Grimes, a sophomore from Cypress Hills High School in Cypress, Texas, finished with 19 goals in 17 games in 2018, establishing a new program record for goals in a season. She scored three hat tricks in 2018, and combined with her five goals in 2017, Grimes leaves as the all-time leading scorer in the program’s brief history with 24. She finished 2018 with 43 accumulated points.

Sophomore Dewbre was on her way to an even bigger season before an injury cut her year short. Still, she managed 15 goals in just 11 games, including a four-goal performance against Mountain View College on Sept. 2. She scored eight goals in 2017, giving her 23 for her two-year career. Dewbre accumulated 34 points in her abbreviated 2018 campaign.

Keller, a freshman forward from Schwarzenbach, Switzerland), scored seven goals and finished with eight assists while amassing 22 points. Bowers, a Brazoswood High School product from Lake Jackson scored six goals and finished with 14 points as a defender.

Grimes and Dewbre are expected to sign their letters of intent in the near future, while Keller and Bowers will anchor a strong returning lineup for the Lady Roadrunners in 2019.
