To take down the home team Angelina College Lady Roadrunners, the visiting Kilgore College Lady Rangers had to beat AC at its own game.

The Lady ‘Runners, one of the best rebounding teams in the conference, saw the Lady Rangers beat them to the boards in Kilgore’s 63-57 win Saturday at Shands Gymnasium.

Kilgore finished with 24 offensive rebounds, converting those into 17 second-chance points. The Lady ‘Runners had given up no more than 10 offensive boards in their previous four games.

AC’s Natasha Mack shrugged off a tough first half that saw her score just two points to finish with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Charisma Shepherd’s 13 points left her as the only other Lady Roadrunner to reach double figures.

Danielle Meador led Kilgore (12-6, 6-3) with 20 points. Jade Thurmon added 18 points and 13 rebounds and Hennessy Handy finished with 11 in the win.

Despite Mack’s slow start, AC managed to keep pace throughout the first half, and both teams entered the intermission tied at 29-29. Kilgore led by nine points at 56-47 with 4:37 to play, but AC’s Mia Williams nailed a three pointer with 1:22 remaining to cut the Lady Ranger lead to 60-57. Kilgore’s Alex Strawhorn then three free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal the Lady Ranger win.

AC (14-5, 6-3) will travel to Beeville on Wednesday to take on Coastal Bend Community College. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
