Big Third Quarter Leads Lady Cards to Win; Lady Roadrunners Can’t Keep Pace with No. 2 TVCC,

Date:

Byron Coleman always has a game plan, especially when facing conference rival Trinity Valley Community College.

On Wednesday, the Angelina College Lady Roadrunners head coach’s game plan worked well for more than two quarters, but not enough to hold off the nationally ranked Lady Cardinals. No. 2 TVCC’s strong third-quarter push led to an 81-64 win at Shands Gymnasium.

Five Lady Cardinals scored in double figures, with Kaye Clarke’s 18 points leading the way. Taiyanna Jackson added 15, and four other TVCC players scored 10 points each.

Mycah McDonald led AC with 17 points and six rebounds. Tyeisha Smith added 17, and Derrica Gilbert and Lovietta Walker added 12 points each.

The Lady ‘Runners actually build a six-point lead in the first period, with Gilbert draining a trio of three pointers and scoring six points. The two teams battled to a 35-35 tie by the half-time break.

Trinity Valley then opened the third quarter with a 15-3 scoring run, and the AC couldn’t close the gap before the final buzzer.

The Lady Roadrunners (12-10, 4-7) will travel to Coastal Bend College on Saturday, with game time set for 2 p.m.
