Are you Thirsty

Date:

John 7:37b (Jesus said) “…If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.”

Generations past would never have imagined Americans (and the world) would purchase water to drink. A recent commercial claims empty water bottles in the U.S., if lined end to end, would circle the globe many times. Even if this were true the majority of people do not drink even the minimum daily requirement. One of the reasons has to be that there are too many other choices to drink—substitutes for the real thing.

Jesus used the illustration of human thirst to compare it to spiritual thirst. Every believer must have spiritual water for the soul. You must try to satisfy thirst by using different substitutes but nothing will truly satisfy someone who is thirsty.

David expressed this need in Psalm 63:1. “O God, You are my God; early will I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh longs for you in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.”

A drought condition of the soul is dangerous. Everything in your life having weak, shallow roots will uproot and die. The dry parched ground of your soul will cause a true believer to cry out with a deep, painful thirst for God. With this sincere, heartfelt need comes a supernatural response from our loving Heavenly Father. Isaiah 41:18 gives a precious promise of relief. The Lord says, “I will open rivers in desolate heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water and the dry land springs of water.”

Regardless of the desert you may live in—a desert of frustration, a desert of sickness, a desert of fear or disappointment or sorrow, God has not forsaken you. Jesus says, “If anyone is thirsty you may come and drink freely. Whoever drinks of the water I give will never thirst. This water will become a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14)

See you next week, Gloria
