LUFKIN, TEXAS, Feb. 4, 2018 – Angelina College Fine Arts Division is hosting an art exhibition featuring local artists, including Karen Christopher, Gary Roberts and Blake Bean opens Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the ACA Gallery. The exhibition will open with a poetry recital by The Live Poets Society featuring AC student Angela Rogers and Dr. Cora Scott.
Karen Christopher is known for her sensitive portrait drawings. She also does commissions of paintings and drawings for individuals and for churches and organizations. She is deeply involved in community service and is Pastor of Pine Flat church in Nacogdoches area.
Gary Roberts is also an artist known for his portrait drawings and paintings. A health professional, Roberts serves as Community Mobilization Coordinator at Health Horizons in Nacogdoches. His work can also be seen in many churches where he has done murals. He and Christopher have collaborated on many community service projects, and mentor young people through art instruction.
Blake Bean is a local artist whose work is well known in East Texas and in Houston. He creates unusual mixed media paintings, often on a large scale. Color and
texture are important elements of his works. Collectors of Bean’s work include George Foreman and Beyonce Knowles-Carter.
Felicia Hogg and her family and Dwight Gipson, will also exhibit works including pastel drawings and acrylic paintings.
The exhibition will remain on display through Feb. 28. This event is free and open to the public.
