LUFKIN, TEXAS, Nov. 7, 2017 – The A.C. Swingin’ Roadrunner Jazz Combo & A.C. Big Band will present a concert Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Hudgins Hall. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 seniors, students, and children.
Under the direction of Larry Greer, A.C. music instructor, the evening’s program will feature arrangements by Darrell Holt. “Holt taught music at Stephen F. Austin State University for 30 years and was my teacher, mentor and later colleague and band mate. He arranged over 400 tunes all by hand, before there were notation programs. He was an extremely talented, innovative arranger,” Greer said.
“Recently, all of his charts were donated to the SFASU music department and they have graciously loaned me a few of his charts for our concert. Gary Wurtz, director of the School of Music at SFASU and good friend of mine and Darrell’s, will be featured on Darrell’s arrangement of ‘I Got It Bad’.”
The set list includes such favorites as “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To,” “I Got it Bad,” “Unforgettable,” “Misty,” and “Autumn Leaves.”

Barnes, Robert Shanks, Melvin Eckman and A.C. music instructor Jimmy Battle in the trombone section; Gary Wurtz, Scott Williams, Mel Miller and Ricky Gay in the trumpet section; Eric Chin, JD Salas, Mark Saldana and A.C. music instructor, Larry Greer in the rhythm section.
