AC’S ANDERSON-PAXSON’S EXHIBITS WORK IN SPESC SHOW

Date:

LUFKIN, TEXAS, Oct. 10, 2017 – Angelina College Fine Arts Instructor Jan Anderson-Paxson has had one of her photos accepted into a juried exhibition at the annual Society for Photographic Education South Central Chapter’s (SPESC) conference Oct. 13-29 in the Cultivate 7twelve Gallery in Waco.

The photo that was accepted into the show is “Sand Abstract #4.” “As I walked along the beach I was hit with the realization that there were wonderful abstract tableaus everywhere I looked. I was amazed at the seemingly perfect placement of graceful lines in the sand created by floating bits and pieces of random seaweed,” she said.

Anderson-Paxson began teaching at Angelina College in 1992. She teaches courses in photography, art, and communication. She holds a Master of Fine Arts, Master of Arts in Art, and Master of Arts in Communications, all from Stephen F. Austin State University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Kansas. Before she began her teaching career, Anderson-Paxson was the first woman news photographer in the state of Kansas, working for the NBC affiliate station in Wichita.

A member of the SPESC for 15 years, Anderson-Paxson is also a member of the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association, the Texas Community College Journalism Association and the Texas Photographic Society.

The Society for Photographic Education is a nonprofit membership organization that provides and fosters an understanding of photography as a means of diverse creative expression, cultural insight, and experimental practice. Through its interdisciplinary programs, services and publications, the society seeks to promote a broader understanding of the medium in all its forms through teaching and learning, scholarship, and criticism.
