The Angelina College Lady Roadrunners experienced a Brookhaven second-half scoring blitz in falling 4-3, and the Roadrunners couldn’t capitalize on scoring chances in a 2-0 loss to San Jacinto in a home doubleheader Tuesday at Jase Magers Field on the Lufkin High School campus.

Both AC teams will host Mountain View College in a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.

Brookhaven College 4, Lady Roadrunners 3

The Lady Roadrunners took a 2-1 lead into the half behind two Jerissa Grimes goals.

Brookhaven came out firing in the second half, notching three goals in 12 minutes to down AC 4-3 on Tuesday.

Grimes’ scored her first goal on a spinning, 360 move in the box in the 19th minute for a 1-0 AC lead. After the Bears’ Deshae Darrell evened the score on a breakaway in the 30th minute, Grimes struck again following a beautiful chip pass from Olivia Urrutia for a 2-1 Lady ‘Runner lead.

Joseline Sorto trickled a ball into the net for the Bears’ 2-2 equalizer, Taylor Reyes knocked in a deflection off a save in the 64th minute and Savanna Hernandez scored on a breakaway in the 65th minute to give Brookhaven three goals in 12 minutes.

AC’s Jade Dewbre battled through two defenders to find the net in the 87th minute, but the Lady Roadrunners’ final charge fell short in the 4-3 loss.

San Jacinto 2, Roadrunners 0

AC’s Roadrunners suffered their second straight shutout loss in the past four days, this time falling 2-0 to San Jacinto College Tuesday at Jase Magers Field in Lufkin.

San Jac’s Carlos Ibarra scored on a chip shot just over the outstretched arms of the AC keeper in the 6th minute, and then added his second score of the night on a diagonal shot across the box in the 72nd minute.

The Roadrunners’ attack simply couldn’t convert on the few scoring chances available. With seven minutes to play in the first half, the Roadrunners got five shots from point-blank range off a corner kick and deflections, only to see the Coyotes turn the attack away.

Late in the second half, AC’s Luis Garcia blasted a kick from the flank that San Jac keeper Bryan Tello knocked away.

The Roadrunners (2-7, 1-5) host Mountain View College at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
