No. 12 Lady Roadrunners Open Conference Tournament Thursday

Date:

AC Enters as East Zone’s No. 2 Seed

Following a 37-win regular season and a long stint in the national rankings, the Angelina College Lady Roadrunner softball team – currently ranked 12th in the nation – will look to book a ticket to Utah when the Region XIV Conference Tournament opens on Thursday.

The Lady Roadrunners enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East Zone and will take on Lamar State College-Port Arthur at 12:30 p.m.

The double-elimination tournament will take place at the San Jacinto College campus located at 13375 Beamer Road in Houston. The current schedule has the second round slated for Friday, the third round on Saturday and the championship decided on Sunday. However, the schedule could change according to inclement weather in the forecast.

At stake for the tournament champ is a berth in the NJCAA Division I World Series in St. George, Utah from May 18-21. The Lady Roadrunners in 2014 became the first Texas team to win the national title and the first Angelina College team to claim a national championship.

The seedings for this weekend’s tournament are as follows:

South Zone: #1 Galveston (46-10), #2 Blinn (35-16), #3 Lamar State-Port Arthur (28-26) and #4 San Jacinto (32-23).

East Zone: #1 Tyler (53-2), #2 Angelina College (37-18), #3 Navarro College (32-18) and #4 Paris College (36-18).

Thursday’s schedule:

  • Game 1, 10 a.m., #3 Navarro vs. #2 Blinn;
  • Game 2, 12:30 p.m., #2 Angelina College vs. #3 Lamar State-Port Arthur;
  • Game 3, 3 p.m., #1 Tyler vs. #4 San Jacinto;
  • and Game 4, 5:30 p.m., #4 Paris vs. #1 Galveston.

A win on Thursday puts the Lady Roadrunners playing the winner of Game 4 at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. A loss will have AC facing the loser of Game 4 at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
